University of Waterloo invitation to recruit Co-op Pharmacy Students

Dear Employers,

On behalf of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo, I'm excited to welcome you to a new recruiting session for co-op students, for the September to December 2010 work term.  The following is a formal invitation, which includes information on job registration:

Please note we will be accepting employer job postings until May 12, 2010.  And you’ll want to mark off in your calendar the Co-op Pharmacy interview date scheduled on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, running from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm

You will have a very large talent pool to choose from for Fall, since there will be 2 classes heading out on co-op totaling over 200 students:  those going for their 1st work term, and those going for their 4th (and final) work term.

Our junior students already have at least two years of university science education before entering the School of Pharmacy, and would have completed two semesters in pharmacy before starting Fall co-op.  Our senior students, with advanced academic coursework and a cumulative twelve months of prior pharmacy co-op experience, will be ideally suited for positions involving direct patient care.  For more information on direct patient care, and other tips, please take a look at the current Co-op Capsule:

For more information on what our students are learning in class, please consult the following curricular reference.  And for a good backgrounder on our co-op program, you can refer to our handy Co-op FAQs document:

Some employers have earlier asked about geographical locations where students may be interested to work.  Surveys were recently conducted to collect this data from our two classes heading out for Fall co-op, the Vanguard Class (graduating in 2011) and our Class of 2013:

Last but not least, the Ontario Government offers the following tax credit to encourage the hiring of co-op students:

• a 25% Co-op Education Tax Credit rate and an enhanced 30% for small businesses

• maximum tax credit available is $3,000 per co-op student on a work term

In closing, if you have questions, or simply would like to discuss your co-op job, please feel free to contact me at a37tang@uwaterloo.ca or 519-888-4567, ext. 21304.

Thanks very much for your investment in the future of the profession.

Best regards,
